I have not yet have the pleasure of meeting Asher’s mother (he is the twin brother of Issachar. the Bedlam Farm comedian), but I hope I will get to talk to her soon. She is, I gather, a brave and remarkable women, her sons speak often of their love and admiration for her.
She wanted to be a lawyer and a doctor, but her life as a refugee closed those doors. She is now studying to be a nurse. Both Asher and Issachar say that to honor her, they will become lawyers.
I know something of what she has been through, and she is worthy of this admiration and gratitude. For whatever it’s worth, she has raised two wonderful, sensitive, and creative sons under horrific circumstances.
That’s worth a lot, I think.
I know many families with much more who have not done nearly as well.
Asher is a shy and deeply introspective young man. He is also very bright. He is not afraid to cry and talk about it. He is in the right place, he says the school has saved his life.
He and Blue are close friends, and he is brimming with creativity. They both are part of Sue Silverstein’s Bishop Maginn Art Gang.
Wednesday, he showed me his latest work, it is in honor of his mother, and it is called “Freedom.” The words on the painting say “No! NothingĀ Can Stop Me Now.”
The photo not finished, it will be done by next week. I believe the image comes out of Asher’sĀ experience as well as his emotions.
I am selling it for $25. If no one buys it in the next couple of days, I will be happy to buy it and hang it on my wall, but it wouldn’t be fair for me to grab it, people out there deserve a shot at it.
So if you want it, please e-mail me and I’ll ship it to you quickly.
This should become a poster. These children are so beautiful and brave, these two boys esp. touch my heart. Thank you Jon.
This reminds me somehow of a song we sing in my threshold choir.
The lyric is very smple: “Nothing can shake my love.”
Sounds like this is the kind of love Asher and his mother and his brother have for each other.
