Last week, as part of our art and music project at the Bishop Maginn High School in Albany, N.Y., a member of the Army Of Good named Rosaland (I don’t know her) send a cash donation to Sue Silverstein for any art project of her choosing.
Mrs Silverstein went right to her art class – almost all of them refugees – and asked what project they would like to undertake with this gift. It is typical of Sue Silverstein to ask them rather than tell them.
They were unanimous. They want to color dye T-shirts for the summer. Sue went to Wal-Mart and bought 100 T-shirts and let me know what was happening. I’m on the way to Albany now with Red and camera to get a first hand view of this activity, which will take much of the day.
Sue says it’s quite a mess. She sent me this photo just a few minutes ago.
I’m going to give Blue and Paw Lway the money they earned from the sale of their paintings – Blue gets $30, Paw Lway another $50. Both may have new paintings for me to sell.
I’ll be meeting with Principal Mike Nolan to talk about setting up a tax-deductible tuition fund to help the school admit the many refugees in desperate need of a special environment. I hope to meet one of them today.
The rebirth of the school’s art and music program – supported vigorously by the Army Of Good – has meant so much to the school and the students. They even painted a special bowl for Red.
And they’re still unpacking the boxes of art supplies. The choir is taking shape and will be operational by September. The vegetable garden for the homeless is planted and growing. Just think of what you did. I’ll have more information on how best to support the tuition fund later in the day.
Blessings to you. (Photo above by Sue Silverstein.)
I can’t wait to get there.
