Coming Together: The First Sounds Of The BMHS Choir

by Jon Katz

Christer and Christer are twins, they each have the same first name. They both spent 10 years of theirĀ  young lives in a refugee camp. They are devoted singers, and are among the first members of the budding Bishop Maginn High School Choir, set to come formally into being in September.

They were busy tie dying T-shirts today but took some time out to sing their newest song for them it’s called “We Come Together.” These girls are as bright and sweet and smart as they look, the only time their faces fall is when they are asked about their lives in the refugee camp. It’s not something they talk about much.

I am forever astonished by the resilience and strength of children, especially the refugee children I have met.

They helped put the new music room together, and are already rehearsing for the choir. Come and listen. I got a lot of requests last week to hear more of this singing, and the twins say they are grateful for the support the new choir has received from all over the country, and they will be happy to sing to the Army Of Good whenever I come and visit.

There is only one more week of school, but I said we’ll take them up on that in September. Thanks for supporting this choir, they have a new room, a new keyboard, a new choir director, some new music, and enough music stands for everyone.

  1. John, the t shirts are so beautiful, I’d forgotten how amazing it is to tie die. I hope you’ve started a trend. They are so gorgeous!
