Bud took it unto himself today to move the sheep out of the side pasture and into the haddock behind the Pole Barn. He got behind the block and barked, and they decided to obey him and they started moving.
Red was on the hill, I’m not sure he could make out what was happening, and Fate was joyously running in circles, happy to run around the sheep Bud decided to move.
And they did move, they ran right out of the pasture gate and up to the Pole Barn, Bud in hot pursuit. This is farthest Bud has moved the sheep in a straight line, it sure looked like he was in a border collie wearing motion, putting pressure on the sheep from behind to move.
He looked pretty good out there.
At this point, Red was distracted by the sight of a chipmunk diving into a stone wall and he tore off after him, barking at the hole and spitting bullets. He has a lot of instinct, but he lacks the border collie focus. Well, most border collies…Fate was watching with interest, not inclined to copy her pal and actually herd the sheep.
Sometimes, I think life is just a circus, and I never know what the acts are doing to do.

I sent a donation; please do with it as you wish. I love the stories that you tell. I love your animals, those that are gone
and those that remain. I love Red because he is the most loyal dog I have ever “known”. All the pets are great in their own way. You and Maria are exceptional people. It is all beautiful. I started following you on the radio while we were driving to Florida for vacation when I heard you were from Bergen County. I heard you on the radio and we all laughed. I loved the stories of your labs and your journey. Wishing you all the best to you and Maria.
Debbie Supenski p.s. You and Maria are both Angels. Just saying.
Bud is an AMAZING dog!! Just imagine a tiny Boston Terrier herding sheep!! Highest canine I.Q. ever!
Obviously, he has learned from his brilliant master!!
