It does lift my heart a bit to see the way Bud watches over Red, especially when Red is tired or slow, as he was this morning. Bud positions himself in front of Red and glowers at the sheep.
For awhile, they were messing with Red. Not anymore, and certainly not when Bud is around. Bud is a generous spirit, and he adores Red. Ever since Red got sick, But has been watching his back.
Bud has been a challenging dog for me, he was something of a wild animal when he came here. He is a very happy dog now, full of life and mischief and love. The images of him standing by Red will always stay with me.
I think you’ve said before that Red is your spirit dog. I wonder if Bud is his?
Stand by Me.
You don’t get the dog you want, you get the dog you need… I thought from the very beginning Bud came into your life, and Red’s as well, to learn and to have Red hand over the baton to him when he felt he was ready so he could leave…and for you to say “That’ll do, Red”- what every BC listens for – a job well done, a life well lived.
