I had an extraordinary afternoon Wednesday at the Bishop Maginn High School in Albany.
I met the artist we have all been admiring, Paw Lway Shee, senior at the high school. I met the two charming and gifted Pakistani twins fighting to stay in Bishop Maginn and needing some help.
I talked with these boys for a half our about the latest Avengers movie Endgame. More about them later.
I took a video of the newly forming Bishop Maginn High School Choir. I heard the joyous news that a veteran choir director and blog reader named Judi Merriam has agreed to volunteer as the new choir director.
There was much excitement about the Army Of Good’s rescue efforts, boxes of art supplies and a bunch of new Texas Instrument graphic calculators are heading for Albany. There are still a few things left on the new Bishop Maginn Wish List. They are right here.
Thank you. I hope all the items on the Wish List are purchased, they are all needed. I have eyes on the eleven music stands the new choir – it will have about 20 students – need. I am eager to help get that choir going, it is so important to these refugee children, they all say it will be their voice to the world, their affirmation.
And I had the great pleasure of handing Paw Lway Shee an envelope with $200 in it, payment for two of her paintings purchased by readers of the blog. I came home with a third (below) that is also for sale. If you are interested please e-mail me at [email protected].
I know her family is very poor, the $100 meant a lot to her.
I appreciated getting to talk with Paw Lway and getting to know her. She spent the first 12 years of her life in a U.N. refugee camp in Thailand. She is shy and very soft-spoken. She is not sure what I am or where I came from, I’m used to that.
Not surprisingly, she wants to be an artist, but is not sure she will be able to make enough money to help her family.
Paw Lway has hired me to be her art agent, I’m off to a good start. We’ve sold two in just a couple of days. The painting above is $50, and I’ll ship it right out to you. We are thinking of putting together an art show for this gifted young woman, perhaps in a pop-up gallery nearby, perhaps online. [email protected].
Tonight and tomorrow, I’ll put up photos and videos of this wonderful afternoon. Red was quite the hit, as always This is his thing, and when surrounded by loving women, he seems to get a lot of his strength back.
Good on you Jon. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing! Her work is beautiful, vibrant!!
I’m looking forward to seeing more of her work. This is a compelling project, and I’m so glad you found them.
