Bishop Maginn Wish List: Thanks, Four Items Left

by Jon Katz

First, I want to than the Army Of Good. There are only four tax deductible items left on the Bishop Maggin Wish List, people sometimes complain they don’t get a chance to support the lists, this one is moving quickly. (Some of the things on the list are seeking more than one item).

I am overjoyed to have connected with the people at Bishop Maginn, they are the real deal, committed to helping refugee children in need, and welcoming and transparent about what they do.

They have absolutely no money, mostly because of there low tuitions. I hope we can help them.

This new Wish List is focused on art supplies, something the teachers have been paying for our of their very small paychecks.  I am eager to help the school start a choir, there are some lovely singers there.

I’m also talking with officials about helping some of the poorest  refugee children pay the very low tuition at the school. We might be able to help, the school doesn’t turn people away, but that means they have little money for salaries or supplies.

We raised a lot of money to help the refugee soccer team in Albany last year, and I think the idea of choir has a great deal of appeal. I’ve heard these kids sing.

A veteran choir director and blog readers is meeting with the school officials this week to see if she can help, she is offering to volunteer. Another choir director sent a couple of boxes of music, I forwarded them to Bishop Maggin.

Tomorrow, the school will get a taste of the loving power of the Army Of Good when a whole bunch of boxes filled with art supplies arrives. Just a few more to go.

I’ve been looking very hard for the right place to do the greatest amount of help for refugee families and their children. I believe the spirits who run the universe – God, maybe? – has led me here.

Take a look at the brand new Bishop Maginn Wish List please, the items range from $6 to one for $98. This is the future of fund-raising – you get to decide how much you want to spend and what for.

If you need the address, it’s Bishop Maginn High School, 75 Park Avenue, Albany, N.Y., 12202. 518 463 2247,

And the contributions to Bishop Maginn are tax-deductible, they are a non-profit organization.

Thanks Army Of Good. There are angels in the world.
