The Calla Lilly Moves Outdoors. Save The Animals?

by Jon Katz

I asked Maria to buy a Calla Lilly because I thought it was a beautiful flower, but also because I thought it would make an intriguing black and white photo. I was not disappointed, I get a little dizzy looking at those shapes and curves and turns.

The flower is also apparently, controversial – this is the Internet, 2019 – several people wrote me in alarm to tell me the flaring plant is poisonous if eaten by dogs or cats. I was warned to get rid of the Calla Lilly immediately.

No chance of that, there is no reference to poison or danger in any of the information about this intriguing South American flower that I read online.

And none of my dogs or cats have ever eaten a plant.

Someday, some geek will invent a reality and fact check for opinions expressed on the Internet, a sort of truth and fact checker. They would make a fortune, and make a lot of people unhappy. I would be one of the happy ones.

Truth takes an awful beating on social media sometimes. I hope this Calla Lilly grows and prospers here, it is outside for the summer.
