I am married to a woman who talks to trees. Often, on our walks or trips to the pasture, I will look up and see Maria’s head in the trees, she listens to them and talks to them.
I have always loved trees, I believe they have interior lives and are aware of the world around them. I have learned that they try to help each other when they can, and they are not just pieces of wood but fellow citizens of the world, just like us.
We wipe them out blindly at our peril, as we are learning. Maria and I share a love of trees, but I envy her the ability to talk with them. And listen to them. “Hey,” I joked, “you have your head up a tree!” I’m not sure she heard me.
What an amazing “cross” in the sky over your blessed farm!
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who saw the huge cross above.
A sign from above to send a message to Jon!
I have recently been to a garden festival and craft fair and on some of the trees they had put ear phones and you could hear the water going up the trunk, it was magical and quite emotional to realise what beautiful living things they are.
Thanks Lorna, that is fascinating. How do you put ear phones on a tree? I want to try this.
I see the cross too!! Right above Maria beautiful.
I, too, saw the shape in the sky, and thought how appropriate to see a sword in a picture of the fierce and wonderful Maria.
Different perspectives, eh?
Hi Wendy. This was done by a tree scientist who wrapped a sort of tape around the trunk I believe boring into it at intervals then attaching the earphones. Not at all a scientific description but you get the idea.
I saw the cross too! Over your farm!
Glad to hear that other people talk to trees like I do. Every time I see construction for a new business we do not need, I can’t help but wonder how many trees were killed. Eventually there won’t be any left. We will live in a world of blacktop and concrete.
