Flower In White: Infrared Photo

by Jon Katz

I’m experimenting with my very simple used Canon Rebel XS, re-sensored for infrared photography. I like the way it forces me to see the most familiar things in a completely different way.

These flowers are deep purple and yellow, they hang in a basket on the back porch. Because I am so used to seeing them in color, I am drawn to seeing them in this almost sacred white, the picture has a spirituality and beauty for me.

I don’t love everything about IR photos, they are an acquired taste. But once in a while, they help me to see grace in a completely different way, as they always find the light, even when it is not visible to the naked eye.

IR photos are pure, they see so much more light than we can see. Today, on a rainy and cloudy day,  they see so much more.

  1. This is a stunning photograph. I can see a whole room created around this one picture. The windows open with gauzy curtains blowing in the breeze. I can even smell the salt air coming from the ocean near by. Thank you for sharing your work with all of us. It uplifts the Spirit.
