I took Red out to the back pasture and asked him to lie down on a hill, something he very much loves to do every day. He sits and watches the sheep, he loves being able to see them all. It is a beautiful thing to see, although it does break my heart a bit. I think he would spend the rest of his life on a hill watching the sheep if he could.

If the angels are watching, I thought, it would be a wonderful way for him to leave the world one day.
