Barn Window

by Jon Katz

In my shallow experience, I have never seen a neat or orderly barn. Barns are chaos receptacles, a farm with hay and animals – especially an old barn – can never be neat, simply one thing after another, all of them usable at some point, none of them can be thrown away.

Chickens go in there, barn swallows, mice, sometimes rats. Old oil cans and tractor parts line the walls. Dust is everywhere. I put a wide angle lens on my camera to capture the feel of our old red barn.

If you see a neat barn, it is not a working farm in any sense.

This is it.
