Back From Boston: A Fish Story, Lots Of Fish

by Jon Katz

We went to Boston yesterday to visit the New England Aquarium, something Maria has been aching to do for a long time. I expected to like it, but not to love it as much as I did. We went through the while aquarium, which took us a couple of hours, then went to lunch, then did the aquarium  again.

I was mesmerized by this strange world, this diverse, and colorful and amazing kingdom, displayed beautifully by the aquarium, from the penguins to the seals to the giant octopus to a four story coral reef with more than 1,100 fish in it, scores of different species and a 90 year old Sea Turtle named Myrtle who came when called, just like a lab.

I loved taking photos of the mysterious jelly fish and also the giant octopus.

I’m going to write about it a bit later today, post some photos and Maria and I are also going to record a podcast, to be published tonight.

Glad to be home, we had a wondrous seafood meal, stayed in a hotel I frequented on my book tours and slept late for us – till 9 a.m. I nearly wracked my back, a small price to play for so much pleasure.

I actually fantasized about being a marine biologist, I was so taken by many of the fish I saw. Maria, needless to say, was in heaven. More later.
