As many of us have learned the hard way, geese are tough. I used Rose to drive sheep out of some town parks soon after I got her, and she was tough as nails, but the geese were just as tough.
She’d run them off and they’d come back, and if she got too close, the would use their heavy wings as clubs and stand their ground.
Bud, who isn’t much taller than the top of my boots, took on two geese that are trying to settle in our pasture for awhile. He went at them like a dive bomber, and they stood their ground until he was almost right on them, and they took off, each heading in a different direction.
They circled up and around and came to and in our flooded marsh. Bud went after them, but the water got too deep and he retreated. The game is on.
We have two different geese who are nesting, and if Bud tries to come anywhere near their babies, he will get an unpleasant surprise. These geese were startled, but they will be back.
Their next is deep in the marsh, far behind our fences and water. Bud will not bother them, they are notorious for protecting their offspring. I’m not crazy about geese myself, but Maria loves them, of course.
The game is on but not over. Stay tuned. Bud was somehow appointed chairman and president of Bedlam Farm. No one asked me or told me.
It is good that you are a quick learner and that you are giving Chairman and President Bud his due regard. We expect nothing less of you. Or of Bud.
I’m learning who’s boss..
I think by now, Jon, or maybe sooner than now, that B.T’s are fearless,
much to their own jeopardy.
My high school mascot was the Goslings …. because of the fierceness of the goose! The old Germans who settled the area picked well. (Watertown, WI)
Little sweet Bud is having the time of his life and it brightens my day each time you tell us about his new adventures. Thank you.
