The Chronicles Of Bud: Walking The Sheep

by Jon Katz

Fate cut her paw so we put her in a crate this morning, she yowled in protest when we went out to do our chores. Red was limping a bit so I didn’t want him to run. We decided to move the sheep into the side pasture, we opened it up forĀ  day, it’s getting green out there.

Bud just ran behind the sheep like a border collie and walked them to the gate, which Maria opened and then walked behind them while they went out to graze. For the border collies, this is called “wearing.”

Bud then walked off to the side and started eating something gross. Keeps his priorities straight. I’m just relating this stories honestly, I am not sure what to make of them.

  1. Yeah, my golden decided to roll in coyote or some other gross oily shit today. It was not fun trying to wash that out.
Hope you have a great Spring.

  2. I so very much enjoy all these stories about the goats and Bud please keep them up truly I enjoy them thank you

  3. Love this…behavior “modeling” is a thing! It is fascinating to me, but when ya think about it not really that odd that animals learn from watching the behavior of their peers. Cool. Keep up the great writing Jon.
