Bud is a great caregiver, while I was sick and laid up, he stayed close to me, usually hopping up on my stomach or chest to doze and snore. He was comforting. Red stays at my feet, and I am encircled by loving dogs, which is healing for sure.

Smushy Face (Sleeping Bud)
by Jon Katz
I cherish reading the blogs of you & Maria. I don’t understand why some folks have to be so judgemental, critical & negative. I gain so much from your blogs & love reading about your lifestyle, even recipes, art, books recommended, ref. to other blogs, your animals, etc. Just try to ignore the negative you are hearing & know that they have a problem – not you!! Thanks for openly sharing your lives – you are REAL. In gratitude, Mary Ann
Thanks MaryAnn most people, like you, are quite nice. We live in a fractious time, I don’t take it too seriously, just sometimes…:)
Comments, criticism, meanness, cruelty – these are the very things that have kept me from actually writing a blog. Do I really want to enter the fray? But when I read your blog, and your replies to the not-so-nice commenters, I think, wow, Jon took that with such grace! I just read a daily meditation book that said relationships with others are the very things that push us to grow, and sometimes it’s very uncomfortable. I’ve watched you handle these uncomfortable situations with truth, honesty and courage. My inner artist is calling to me – loudly and insistently, to get to it, to open up. Thank you, as always, for the inspiration.
I think your book is wise…these kinds of messages force me to choose what kind of person I would like to be…they always give me a way to be better..
