I’m thinking about taking a breath this weekend, staying home (after my Writing Workshop, which begins shortly). We have to go to the dump, go pick up a framed sketch Maria drew for me on our honeymoon.
I hope to spend some time along today with my Spirit, my driving force.
I want to take a beautiful photograph, read a book, watch a British mystery, hang out with Maria. We never tire of being with each other, even after a decade of knowing each other and being together..
So far, no one has complained that they haven’t received my blog in the mail – I got mine at 4 a,m. – so this is a good sign that things may be beginning to return to normal.
I got several hundred messages yesterday, and it is good to know the blog matters to people.
I am proud of that.
If I have a faith it is the faith in the Spirit. The Spirit is first of all above power and discernment, the power that drives the human spirit above itself towards what it cannot attain all by itself. It is the love and feeling that is greater than all things.
Some call it God, I guess I call it the Spirit. Does it really matter what we call it?
Paul Tillich wrote of the Spirit, he wrote “The Spirit can work in you with a soft but insistent voice, telling you that your life is empty and meaningless, but that there are chances of a new life waiting before the door of your inner self to fill its void and to conquer the dullness.”
And perhaps also to conquer the anger and disconnection we sometimes feel from our world and the people around us.
For me, the Spirit conquers the drift and sloth and fear that smothers what I know is the aim and purpose of my life. It is magical and mystical, it can transform anger and rage and anxiety and depression into peace of mind and purpose.
I believe the work of the Spiritual Presence in a man or a woman reaches its peak when it liberates him or her from the yoke of modern life – stress, money, achievement, and the false sense of security we are told our bank accounts can bring.
I’m going to spend some time today with my Spirit, this is a day for liberation for me.
