I asked Red to lie down between the sheep and the donkeys to keep the sheep still and maintain order, his primary task in the morning. Bud came scurrying up the hill and took up his new daily position between Red and the sheep. The sheep, for some reason, are afraid of Bud and while he doesn’t “herd” them in any convention sense, he is able to keep them still, and well away from Red.
Nobody moved much as Bud glowered at them. I wonder if Bud will ever figure out that he is a small dog, and the sheep could stomp him into the ground. He loves Red and has become his guard dog.
Red now has a “service dog”
Was there a blog today? Can’t find it.
http://www.bedlamfarm.com it’s been up ther all day…or go to Google and hit bedlamfarmjournal…it’s explained there..I’m confused..you’re posting on today’s blog..
Looking at Red and Bud, I see some similarity in their coat markings and their face. Maybe the sheep see Bud as a smaller version of Red. Just a thought. I love how Bud seems to be such a good friend to Red.
So cool to observe Bud guarding Red from the sheep. Am I remembering correctly that Red was Rocky’s “guide dog” when you first moved to this farm? Animals’ senses are often a mystery to us but so interesting to watch and try to understand. Now Bud is returning the favor – Karma?
I think his devotion to Red is amazing. He is definitely a lion-hearted [little] dog. (Please don’t tell him I called him little!)
Love, love the new blog format Jon!!! Well done.
Wow! It is amazing how loyal Bud is to Red! Protecting him and loving him! Since I have been afraid of small dogs before, I think I can understand the fear the sheep have of Bud!
