Valentine’s Day Gifts

by Jon Katz

Maria and I don’t make a huge big deal about Valentine’s Day, but I like to mark it in small and feeling ways. I got this card for Maria, I love it, it just feels like us, and I got three beautiful ceramic hearts from Emily Crawford of Saratoga, (crawfordislandart – [email protected], 518 461 0196).

They can be used as tea bags holders, or jewelry holders, or any of the dozen things Maria will think of to do with them. We both love the card, and after scolding me for buying her a Valentine’s Day present, she whisked them off into her Studio.

I don’t know that I can add much to what I have already written about my love for Maria.

What I am thinking on Valentine’s Day is this:

Please don’t give up on love,

it comes when you are open to it,

ready for it,

can work hard at it.

The world before love,

and the world after love,

are different worlds.

I dream of leaders,

and fathers and mothers,

who are measured

by love, and not by power

or judgement or fear.

My wish today is that everyone

who seeks love,

finds love.

Bow your heads,

and ask your angels

to help you find love.

That is what they do,

what they live for.

Give them a chance,

They helped me.

  1. Oh Jon this such a lovely post! I needed this today. I love those hearts…. I have been a loyal reader of your blog for years now. I was going through my divorce at the same time you were dealing with yours. Unfortunately I have not yet met my love but I remain hopeful. I love reading about you and Maria and your remarkable and inspiring love story. Happy Valentines Day to you both!!
