(From The Bedroom Window)
We knew we were above freezing this morning, the frost that had blocked our views outside for weeks was gone. It was just about 32 and the donkeys were at the gate braying to us to get out and feed them, they had come out of the Pole Barn.
Such cold changes matter, and the farm felt, even smelled different. We felt that we had emerged from some surreal kind of period, which we had. The new normal is abnormal, while the Emperor fiddles in his palace. This morning, off to the Mansion to organize a special Bingo morning, and also bring some wonderful books I found at a library book sale in Massachusetts Saturday.
Our scary water crisis worked out – that was close – and there is some water soaking into one wall of the living room. All things considered, we got off well. The wood stoves were heroic, Bud figured out how to eliminate outside even in bitter cold, Maria got through her hypothermia, and I managed to see the Mansion refugees every day but one.
I always think Mother Earth is speaking to us, she is trying to get our attention. You will love Spring, she said. Pay attention to me. I think I’ll take Maria out for some scrambled eggs and potatoes, she has a craving. More later.
P.S. I got these books yesterday for $43, they are worth more than $150. The Mansion experience is teaching me how to shop and be frugal, and make my money count. The residents love to leaf through these big picture books, and I found a trove of large print novels for them. A good find, and the fates willing, the displaced residents will begin returning to the Mansion tomorrow.
P.S. I am in love with Janielle Monae, who is blasting out in the farmhouse as I write. Gets the blood moving, I’m even dancing with myself and the dogs while Maria blogs.
I love that you enjoy Janelle Monae
She is awesome…
Bedroom Window photo reminds me of Emily Dickinson poetry.
