When I was a reporter starting out, the old guys who taught me the trade always said that when I was walking around a city, “look up at the second floors, that’s where all the stories are.” This advice proved right again an again and again, and I’ve never walked around a city without looking up at the second floor windows.
Brattleboro is a second floor city, a place of great community, but also a place that can feel lonely, it has great character and depth. This shot caught that feeling, it was both lively and full of people and yet looking up at the second floor I felt a loneliness there.
