The hardest thing for our donkeys, Lulu and Fanny, is not the cold. Donkeys are hardy mountain and desert creatures, they are highly adaptable to different environments. The most difficult thing for them is to be trapped in the Pole Barn by ice and snow and not able to satisfy their powerful grazing instincts.
This is when they get bored and start trying to eat the barn. Maria is always on the lookout for soft or even rotting wood, she is always hauling it to the donkeys for them to chew and take apart
They loved rolling this one around and eating the bark off. Some of our woodshed lots are soaked in moisture or rotted out by insects. They help the donkeys get through a suddenly very tough winter.
