Turn On The Radio

by Jon Katz

Wednesday, think about turning on your radio from one to three p.m. to listen to “Talking To Animals,” my new baby radio show, on WBTNAm1370 community radio from Bennington, Vt.

We have a find time taking your calls about animals and trying to listen to your stories and solve your problems.

I think the show is catching on, but then, I’d be lying if I said I know for sure. The station doesn’t pay for Nielsen ratings.

I get a lot of e-mail about it, but for me, the show stands or falls on the calls we get.

And we are starting to get a lot, from different parts of the country, from Canada, France and Italy. That is pretty cool. But I know the show is a long shot at best, and I just can’t say how far it can go.

In the meantime, we are really helping draw some resources and attention to WBTNAM, a feisty and fiercely independent community radio station. They could use some help, and they are a very good cause. You can help them by supporting the Amazon WBTN  Wish List.

I live very much in the now, and for now, it is doing pretty darn well.  I’m going to keep working hard at it.

Please call if you have any questions about animals, you can also e-mail them to me: [email protected]. I got a lot of e-mails during the show last week, mostly from people at work or people who couldn’t get through on the stations’ Korean War phone system.

I don’t want to be talking to myself for two hours a week, I can do that at home. If you like the show, please think about calling.

Some interesting people have gotten through, and the broadcast is great fun, at least for me. You can call the station at 866 406-9286 (or 802 442-1010).

You can live stream the show on WBTN’s website here. Or you can can download a free radio app like Simple Radio and listen to the broadcast on it. If you wish to sponsor an hour of “Talking To Animals,” you can send $25 here, or send a check to WBTNAM, 407 Harwood Hill, Bennington, Vt., 05201.

Wednesday, and by popular request,  I hope to talk more about breed popularity, calming training, loving dogs too much, and the remarkable  rise of the animal rescue movement.

Check it out, Wednesday one to three. 866 406 9286, or 802 442-1010. And don’t forget to e-mail me your questions during the show, I’ll read them on the air: [email protected].
