We went over to the Mansion this morning to say with the residents who had no families to go to today a Happy Thanksgiving. Some of the residents were waiting to be picked up, some were already gone.
There was a small group in the Activity Room watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, we sat with them awhile. The Mansion was quiet, peaceful. A full and meaningful day for those who got to go out, a safe and comfortable but somewhat lonely day for the rest.
We got to spend one-on-one time with people we didn’t always get to see. Many of the residents were in their rooms getting ready to go see relatives they hadn’t seen in a while. Winnie brought her new cat with her as she went home to her farm for dinner.
The Mansion had a Thanksgiving Turkey lunch today, the table was small. We said hello, let Red do this thing and came home. The Mansion is a gift to me, it helps me learn how to be a human being.
There was only one cookie left in the box of cookies I left for the Mansion aides yesterday. Another box is coming on every Monday until New Years.
I have come to love many of those people and many of them have come to love Maria and I. They are an integral part of our lives.
I gave Red permission to climb up on the soft to visit with Alice, she loves to be with him and stroke his fur. I wish all of you reading this a happy holiday.
Wish the Mansion were closer to me. I would volunteer
There is probably one just like it near you, Barbara…nice thought.
Love Red’s eyes, how he is looking up at Alice. He is a very special dog. He is not just “there,” he is engaged. I love that you and Maria continue to spread joy at The Mansion. The two of you are not just there as well – you are engaged. I believe that is a thing that comes from your hearts.
So many of your photos of your animals are precious and beautiful. This is one of them. Thanks for giving your presence to the Mansion residents today.
