In The Snow: Red And The Apple Tree

by Jon Katz

It’s been snowing every morning, just a few inches. We have to shovel and scrape off the cows, and the bored animals – they can’t graze – are starting to gnaw on the barn again.

More chicken wire coming. Red seems to love the snow, he shines in it. His favorite monitoring position is under the Apple Tree. I think he sees the sheep more clearly in the snow, they stand out.

He seems focused and intense in this cold and snowy weather. I dropped down the exposure in my new lens to get a silhouette affect, which I like both with Red and the small appleĀ  tree in the pasture, it captures the feeling of the winter pasture.

It’s early for this much snow, but then we have given up on understanding the weather any more, we just try to accept it and be prepared.
