November. The weather forecast says no sun until Friday, and then after that, another week of ice and rain and gray. November is a bridge from one part of life to another, between the colors of Spring and Fall to the austere beauty and challenge of the winter pasture.
And then, there are the holidays.
No family stuff for us this Thanksgiving, we have opened our home to two or three friends who have nowhere else to go, thus no longer ourselves being two people who have nowhere to go on Thanksgiving.
Our families are no longer an option, and no one else has invited us, which works well, and we usually choose to be together and by ourselves on holidays.
I balked at first, but then accepted Maria’s idea to invite some people who might like to share the holiday. It is a good thing to do, and I think of all the people in California who have opened their homes to the fire victims.
It will be a nice and warm way to celebrate the holiday and set the tone for the season. I have plans for making this holiday uplifting and meaningful for us, and maybe for some others also.
Light follows darkness, I am taking the long view.
My favorite Thanksgiving holidays were shared with those who had no where else to go. I wish I could be there with all of you. Happy Holidays Jon. I think Maria is right on.
