Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 7, from one to three p.m. I’ll be on the air, taking calls relating to dogs, pets and other animals live – 802 442-1010 if you live in the listening area, 866-406-9286 if you live elsewhere, any where in the world.
And there’s news:
Thomas Toscano and the crew at WBTN – the home of my new radio show, “Talking To Animals,” have just posted what I think is a wonderful idea (okay, I suggested it), an Amazon Wish List with inexpensive gift cards so people can support community radio without stretching their bank accounts too much.
The gift cards range in price from $10 to $25 to $50 and it gives people a chance to support the very important idea of community radio, the voice of ordinary people in a corporate world.
As people buy the inexpensive gift cards, Toscano and his staff can total them and buy the things they need. I’ve urged them to continue to put up material things they need – office chairs, new microphones and equipment as well.
The gift cards speak to new ways of fund-raising thanks to the Internet – large numbers of people giving small amounts is a revolutionary idea. It is at the heart of the Army Of Good (and I appreciate the larger amounts as well, they really matter.)
I love this idea and I hope the Army Of Good can support it if they wish. They (you) are beginning to help turn things around at WBTN, the little station that could and must.
This kind of do-gooding is a wonderful way to begin the day. Community Radio is a valuable culture entity, especially in the era of giant corporate media. Ordinary people are being shut out of media and political discourse.
We’re getting there. The station has toilet paper and Post-Its for the first time. In addition to the gift cards, the station is seeking a $5.99 microphone cover and a desperately needed $49 desk chair. Believe me, they need a couple.
People get to give what they want, the radio station gets to buy what they need.
Every week, we are expanding the ways in which people can hear the show and participate. You can live-stream “Talking To Animals” by clicking here, WBTNAM.org.
You can e-mail me your questions day or night – [email protected] – or, if you have trouble calling, you can e-mail me the questions while I’m on the air, I have my Iphone handy.
You can also listen to the podcast version of the show here.
These days, there are no purely local media entities. With new technology, we can go national.
You can also go to the Apple Store and download a free radio app (I use Simple Radio), you can hear the broadcast on your phone or tablet.
So check out the broadcast, we are striving to create a thoughtful and relevant broadcast for animal lovers – no nastiness or screaming – we are all good to one another. To the many shy people e-mailing me, I hope you gift it a shot. We will treat you well.
Check out the new Wish List. And tune in tomorrow if you can. And tune in tomorrow, WBTN, Wednesday, one to three p.m. 866-406-9286.
Audio. WBTN is important.
