Do You Dare To Hope? See My Omen Today

by Jon Katz

(This photograph is for sale, $130 unframed, go to Maria’s Etsy Page for details or to purchase. $130 unframed.)

It was pouring all day, a cold and gloomy November day, a prelude of the dark days coming, which we take seriously up here. The December Solstice is getting close.

In the late afternoon, the rains stopped and the light streamed through the clouds, we went out into the pasture to check on the animals, as we do every afternoon.

The dogs were dancing and sniffing around us.

Suddenly, Maria gasped and pointed  up to the sky. We saw the most beautiful and vivid rainbow, it looked as if it was on fire. I didn’t have my big camera, only my Iphone X camera, it is a wonderful camera.

For the first time, I touched the zoom feature and it enlarged the rainbow,  it gave the image a grainy, painting-like quality.

It looked like a pillar of fire and I thought of it as an omen, an omen of hope. These had been disturbing days for many of us, no matter our beliefs, and what I felt was a dare to hope, I knew I was looking at an omen.

An omen is a portent or phenomenon that is believed by some to foretell the future, it often signals the advent of change. For much of human history, people believed that omens brought a divine message from the Gods.

The diviners were specialists, they interpreted the omens, they would expect an answer to their rituals and questions, yes or no, favorable or unfavorable.

I am no diviner, I can’t say I know what the omen was suggesting, I can only say I  felt a burst of hopefulness and a sense of good change. I felt that I could dare to hope, that was the message I was feeling.

I have never seen a rainbow like this, or been so close.

I think we either feel it or  we don’t. I know it struck me quite powerfully.

So I decided to put this photo up for sale, in case it suggested the same thing to others. The image will cost $130 unframed, plus shipping, on the best quality rag photographic paper.

It will only be sold on the Etsy Page of Full Moon Fiber Art, Maria’s studio. Thanks.

  1. Gorgeous photo. I believe in omens, signs as well. I rarely “know” what they mean, but like you, I go with what I feel. Hope is a wonderful feeling.

  2. The rainbow whenever it appears is not an omen! Read: Genesis 9:11-13 (if you own a Bible). ” I establish by covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” Now you know!
