We assembled the new Karaoke Machine today, it was quick and easy to do. Maria recorded a video of me singing along with a song from the “Sound Of Music,” but I was just too embarrassed and deleted it.
I made another video so people can see how the machine works, and I did get emotional while playing “Memory” from the musical “Cats.”
I made a fool of myself singing again, but I was okay this time, the video was aimed at the machine, not me.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Broadway musicals, but ever since I’ve been working with people who suffer memory loss, it has a different meaning for me. I surprised myself by singing along here with a single verse. And yes, I did tear up a bit.
My work with the memory impaired is powerful and disturbing and challenging. I see these good people fighting to hard to remember their lives, the very fabric of their existence. They live in a whirlpool of sight and sound.
I think the Mansion residents will love the Karaoke machine, and I hope to sing with it alongside of them. So come and meet this machine, and thanks so much for your support in getting it.
This is an integral part of the my holiday campaign for the aides and residents of the Mansion in 2019. Feel free to sing along.
