Dogs Of Entitlement: The Little King 2.0

by Jon Katz

We used to call Gus, our first Boston Terrier, “the Little King,” but it seems it goes with the breed. Bud seems to think the farmhouse is his, along with the sheep, the donkeys and the pasture.

He certainly thinks our shoes are his to move around the house. The breed has this regal thing going, they think they own everything around them, sofas, chairs, treats.

Bud sat down in front of the sheep today as if they were his private flock and he had come out to survey them.

I think Bud is the Little King 2.0.

  1. When they are old & arthritic, they can also talk you into pushing them around the neighborhood in a baby stroller (or maybe that’s just me!). I once was carrying a very small one in a tote bag across one shoulder, bag in front of me. My neighbor, whom I didn’t know well, was staring at me strangely as I approached. When I got close to her house, she burst out laughing. “I was thinking that was the ugliest baby I ever saw!” She said.
