New Bedlam Farm Wool For Sale

by Jon Katz

This morning, Maria and I drove to the Vermont Fiber Mill in Brandon, Vt. to pick up the yarn made from the shearing of our sheep in June. She tried some dyeing in different colors, this time dyeing much of the wool.

I’ve never seen her so excited about the way her yarn looks.

This ritual to Brandon is one of our cherished practices because it gives a purpose to our sheep and takes us back to the time when this was how farmers and their wives earned a living, and clothed themselves and other people.

I was very excited to take this photograph, the yarn looks wonderful, and the colors are exciting beyond our expectations.

Maria is counting the skeins and preparing them for sale on her Etsy Page sometime this afternoon, probably between 5 or 6 p.m.

They speak for themselves, they will be sold on the Etsy page, but you can e-mail Maria anytime if you have any questions about them.

Maria hasn’t set a price quite yet.

She has 108 skeins for sale (no roving this time) and some of them are sold. The skeins will cost $25 plus shipping.

If you’re interested look for them to show up on Etsy sometime soon after 5 p.m., if you need more information, you can contact her at [email protected].

We both love these trips to Brandon.

We visit with Debbie at the knitting mill, she and Maria talk wool and yarn, Red and I take a walk on their beautiful fields, then we go into Brandon for brunch at La Provence, a lovely French restaurant with great salads and soups.

It’s about a five hour round trip. We love having sheep,  herding sheep, shearing sheep, selling yarn.

This is one of the things that makes having a farm so wonderful.
