Adopted! Another Miracle From The Army Of Good

by Jon Katz
Adopted

This dog is named Jen, she is a Chihuahua mix,  five months old and was taken by the authorities from an animal shelter in Texas that is still open. Early this morning, I put this photo up on my blog and Jen became the first dog I have ever put up for adoption on my blog, something I hope to do more frequently.

If we can help people, we can  help dogs, and we did.

Carol Johnson of Friends Of Homeless Animals/RI messaged me this morning to tell me that several of my readers had formally applied to adopt Jen (at first described as a male), after she is cleared by veterinarians an is healthy again.

She was treated brutally, as you can see, but her eyes tell a different story. They are full of hope and feeling as well as pain. Thanks once more, I seem to be saying that every day.

I appreciate the good people to reached out to save this dog. And gratitude to Carol Johnson of FOHA.

  1. Have been reading here for many years, first time commenting aside from a note I mailed you once after being moved by something you wrote about saying goodbye to a beloved dog.
Thrilled to see that the pup is on the way to a home, and like you I see hope in her eyes. I can only imagine what she will look like in a few weeks once she’s had a chance to absorb the new reality of a loving home, a human to help, food, a comfy bed. I hope her new people send a photo you might share of her down the road.
I recently lost my 14 year-old spirit dog after her 2 year battle with cancer, and am considering the idea of helping another dog soon. Had I seen your post earlier, I imagine I may have been compelled to apply myself. Thrilled to see many did, and I hope you continue to post similar calls for help.

  2. I am so happy to see that your life has taken yet another turn. You always do good things, and getting involved in the adoption of “unadoptable” dogs (and cats) is yet one more step in expressing your kindness. I have followed your blog for several years and this is the first time I have been inclined to follow your lead. You have become a hero to me in so many ways. I have always adopted shelter cats (had 8, now 3). I was just about to write to you about this little pup, but didn’t think that she would be happy with the cats. There will be another time when I can step in and help. Much happiness to you!

    1. Thanks Myra, a lovely message and thanks. FOHA gets a steady stream of cat-friendly dogs and I will contact them this morning and see if they have one that would work well with cats. I’ll let you know..You can also e-mail carol johnson at [email protected]
