My birthday present from Maria arrived a few days ago, it comes from Taos, New Mexico, where staurolite minerals are found. This kind of mineral is called a “Fairy Cross,” staurolite is best known for its distinctive, cross-shaped penetration twins, where two rectangular crystals form to create a perfect cross.
Some staurolite’s are used as religious symbols, the “Fairy Crosses” are used as spiritual and creative symbols. I got one for Maria when we went to New Mexico, and I admired it, and so she got one for me as a necklace, the first one I’ve ever worn outside of my shirt.
It definitely has a special feeling about it.
