Every time I think Red hasĀ really shined, he shows me something else. Today, we had a little shearing crisis, the gate to the left is rotting out and the sheep tried to break through it. I send Red into a “come-bye” position and had him lie down in the corner.
It was an iconic border collie standoff. Liz the shearer told me she usually never allows dogs into the shearing area, but she loves having Red there. He kept the sheep from approaching the loose gate, he kept them in the corner so Liz could approach them and grab them, he remained calm when they charged him and tried to butt him.
He is a very special animal, and this photo seemed iconic to me, the essence of what it means to have a dog working with people in harmony. More photos later.
