It started with Frida, the fish on the right, and then came Diego, her new consort. Many of you will recognize the inspiration – Frida Kahlo and Diego Revera – one of the most famous on-and-off lovers of the art world.
Fish are simple creatures, elemental. Little is known about the or what they do or don’t know or understand. It is believed that they can recognize people and their voices.
We also got a ground feeding algae eat called Plecostomos (Pleco). There is a superstition about this fish, it holds that if you pronounce it’s full name, it will die. At the moment, he is holed up next to the filter, preferring to avoid photographs.
Contrary to popular belief, fish do sleep. They can easily be startled, and often are by people banging and tapping on the glass to get their attention. Fish, like people, are easily stressed. I just discovered how beautiful they can be to photograph, there is a grace and purpose about them that I find uplifting and worthy.
So here they are close up, two new members of the Bedlam Farm family for me to write about and photograph, for Maria to love and consider, to teach us things about the animal world we did not know. Plenty more photos coming.
