Two days ago, I was thinking about returning this new and historic art lens, the Daguerreotype Achromat from Lomography. It was a manual optic lens modeled closely on the original, manufactured in 1839. I was struggling with it, and some people were squawking about the focus.
Today, we decided to cap the sale of this signed and limited edition photograph to 50, we already have about half that many orders, and it has only been on sale for a day Life is like that. This is a bit of shock to me, I have wanted to sell my photographs for some years, preferring to give them away for free. I don’t watermark or copyright any of my pictures, people are free to use these images in any way they wish.
But this one felt special to me, and I sensed it right away. A big and beautiful Great Blue Heron has taken up residence in our bond in the back. He (or she) was gracious enough to pose for me when I wandered back there and as tricky as my new lens is, it wanted to take this photo.
I also realized it would be good to raise some money for our trip to New Mexico in October, our first real vacation together.
So my friend George Forss, the brilliant photographer is going to print up the photos for me on archival paper, 11×14 (unframed). Maria is going to handle the sales – [email protected] – and the prints are $110 apiece plus shipping (in a very secure tube.)
It will take George a week or two to print the photos, he is a superb printer and also brings to his work the eyes and feel of a famed and experienced photographer. This will be a signed and limited edition photograph, we are capping the orders at 50. Limited Editions need to be limited.
I love this picture, my prickly lens decided it wanted to preserve this image, it seemed ethereal and spiritual to me, it captures the beauty and stillness of Mother Earth. People say it looks like a Monet painting and I don’t know about that, but it does seem like a soft watercolor to me, that is the beauty of my new lens.
The photos captured by this lens sometimes have this otherworldly quality about them, as does this photo.
So there it is, on sale until 50 of them are sold. This is kind of exciting, I don’t get to see or take photo like this too often, and it says a lot about the nature of creativity. If you hang in there, you are sometimes rewarded .But you can’t ever quit.
You can purchase this print by e-mailing Maria at [email protected]. If any are left, we will sell them at our Open House in October. And thanks.
