The days have been getting longer for some time, but there were no eggs in the roost and we couldn’t find any around the pasture or the barn. Yesterday we found out why. The hens have been laying their eggs amidst the hay bales, stacked high up in the red barn, out of sight from below.
As we have used up the hay and lowered the stacks, I became suspicious when I saw the white hen sitting way up on one of the bales. Sure enough, we found her stash. Hopefully, fresh eggs will soon be returning to our breakfast diet.
