Not too many people I know worry about pennies, and feel their pain at being cooped up in jars. Last night, we had one of our more classic discussions, I wanted to put some excess pennies we were wrapping to help pay for our trip to New Mexico in November (we have saved a lot of pennies) and Maria suddenly announced that she couldn’t bear to see them cooped up again, after having been trapped in our big piggy bank for nearly four years.
There was something funny about the discussion we had, even as we were gathering our coin rolls and preparing to go to the bank today, and we both laughed.
But there was something quite wonderful about it as well, empathy is a natural gear for Maria, not just an idea to hear about in Church. She feels it, lives it, even for some pennies. I think in some ways it was one of the best conversations we have ever had, and a window into her great and pure heart. This empathy, I think is one of the many reasons I love Maria so much.
Come and see.
