Red and I went to see Connie this afternoon at the Mansion, she was working on her 50th baby cap for newborns born at the Albany Medical Center. How many are you going to make, I asked? I don’t know, she said, as many as they can use. The staff tried to get Connie to go to the hospital in person and present them, but she declined. She did agree to come to the farm next week to see the animals and visit Maria in her studio.
Connie is fearful of traveling, she has to move a lot of medical equipment – a walker, oxygen tanks, and tubes. She is understandably anxious about moving all that equipment around, but we think we’ve worked it out. A staff member is coming with her, and I got a brief lesson from an aide today.
We’ll take good care of her. She is storing the caps in two plastic bags and is working hard to make more. I told her she was a pain in the butt today, and laughed. You too, she said. Fair enough. Connie is tough and honest, she says just what is on her mind. She and Red have quite a beautiful relationship, he will stand next to her and close to her forever, they just connect with one another. More Mansion photos later.
