I saw them last year, sitting on that couch, in the reading room of the old inn. They seemed so beautiful and connected to me, I fell in love with them and this year, as we checked in, I saw the sitting on the couch, reading on Thanksgiving, just as saw them last year.
This time, I came over to them, introduced myself. “You both look so beautiful there, I said. May I take your photograph.” There is something about good and grounded people, they always say yes, and smile. They know they are special, they are proud of themselves, happy to be honored in this way.
They have been coming to the inn for 25 years on Thanksgiving, they told me, and they dress up for dinner. He wears a jacket and tie (I was in work shirt and jeans, and felt shabby). We have grown older together, heĀ said softly, and they always sit in the same sofa and read after dinner.
I could hardly be more different than this wonderful gentlemen, yet we felt so connected to one another, he was so gracious and appreciative of me asking to take his photo. Solid as a rock, these two, they know who they are, and what it is they do and don’t do. I loved taking this photo.
