Today is the day the barn cats came in. Two days of snow, ice and freezing rain brought both cats to the back door early this morning, and we let them in. Minnie rushed to the basement door – she loves to hide in the basement during the day in the winter, it is warm there and there are often mice to hunt.

Flo assumes the role of the house cat, she sits by the wood stove or finds a soft place to lie, and settles in for the winter. When it isn’t snowing or too cold, we put them out during the day, but they will be with us for much of the winter now. Flo has earned it, so has Minnie.
