I helped teach my writing class this morning, our class is entering it’s second year, and just keeps getting better and stronger. I say “helped” because as we all get to know one another and trust each other, then we are all teachers in almost every sense of the word, we give and we take, we learn and we teach.
More than anything, we are learning how to listen. Mandy Meyer-Hill is a writer and massage therapist, she is a healer, and also an active listener. Every week, I learn something new about teaching, and my ideas about are radically different now than they were even a few months ago. We took a new writer into the class today, Amy, a novelist and poet from Williamstown. She fit right in, almost as if she had been with us all along.
I think the class grounds all of us, in a number of different ways.
