I love Maria’s newest hanging piece, her Electric Hair Goddess, and one morning last week, I believe I saw her come into the bedroom and stand with her arms outstretched and beckon me to get out of bed and go out and do the farm chores. Maria loves this creation, she briefly put it up for sale, then decided she would keep it, at least for awhile, maybe forever. People loved it, but nobody rushed to buy it.
There is a powerful eye in her belly, bears in her claws, lightning coming out of her head. All these things mean something in mythology, Maria explains them here. The Electric Hair Goddess is important to her, thus to me. It does grow on one.
The piece is hanging on our pink living room wall next to the fireplace, and I can feel it’s power, it’s one of those eclectic and idiosyncratic art works that comes from the amazing mind that is Maria, and which combines paganism, mysticism, feminism and empowerment.
This is a hanging piece with a lot of voice.
But Maria explains it herself in this video, even as she hangs it and Fate barks at the UPS truck. Come and share this very neat moment in our lives. The piece is not for sale.
