We did it, we simply couldn’t leave them there.
So we have four new sheep, all Romney’s. We had to leave the intact ram behind, he and Red had a world title fight, Red won in overtime.
Today, after a long and wild brawl with sheep, a ram, goats and Red, we finally captured these two free and strong-willed spirits – Red got rammed, run over, harassed by goats, helped by a horse, and had a wild chase up and down a big hill, into the woods, and through gates and around tractors.
He did a splendid job, as he always does, and got the job done. Red never lost his cool, our strategy of wearing the sheep down worked.
We captured Griselle and Biddy, who had gotten out of their pasture and were on a wild tear. Red will sleep tonight, so will I. So will Maria, she had a whale of time wrestling the ewes into the back of the cars.
I have been through this kind of a chase many times before, and I confess I love it, especially when there is a dog like Red around. More photos to come.
Late this afternoon, these two huge and unshorn Romney wool sheep – check out the gorgeous wool, Maria will be very happy – were delivered in the rare of two SUV’s and were staring at my camera in the pole barn. Everyone seems to have acclimated with everyone else. Biddy who has a rep as a jumper, showed no signs of jumping and with all of that unshorn wool, I doubt she could if she wanted to.
They were tired and dazed – and hot I’m sure – but happily re-united with Rosemary and Izzy. Izzy is, in fact, Griselle’s daughter. Small world.
I called our shearer, Jim McRae and is coming to shear the Romney’s and our sheep at the Open House on Columbus Day Weekend. That will be something to see. The public is invited. More to come.
