Corn silk is essential to the growth of the corn. When corn pollen lands on the unfertilized ear, the silk grows from the pollen until it reaches a kernel, which fertilizes it. Without the silk, the kernels wound not develop and there would be nothing to eat.
We took a zucchini out yesterday and have been eating string beans from the garden. Two pumpkins are getting large and a row of cucumbers and sunflowers are growing.
