Our Three Sisters Garden – a traditional feminist garden symbolizing women’s support for one another since the earliest American settlements- is booming. We’ll take our first zucchini our tomorrow and eat it, we’ve had several stringbeans and two pumpkins are growing. The corn is beautiful and chest high to me, the one above is sprouting a proud tassel.
The Native Americans and (modern nutritionists) believe a human can thrive on the ingredients of this garden – corn, squash, beans. We’re going to be eating these things all summer. Maria is already planning a bigger Three Sisters Garden next year. I imagine a quilt or hanging piece is fermenting somewhere in her fevered brain.
