I came across this canvas print of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, an inspiration to creative people everywhere. She suffered greatly in her life, she loved deeply, she created continuously. I’ve seen many sketches and portraits of her but this one struck me in a particular way.
I got it as an inspiration gift for Maria on the eve of our Open House, in many ways a celebration of art, hers and others. I knew she would love it, and she just lit up when she saw it.
I’m sure she will put it away for the Open House, too much stuff in her studio, but perhaps she will keep it there beyond, and look to it when she needs some encouragement and inspiration to create, create, create, even in the face of overwhelming odds. I was worried it wouldn’t get her in time, but it showed up today.
Frida, you are an inspiration to me as well. Your work speaks of love, brilliant vision and a great heart. You never gave up.
