The bond between humans and horses is ancient and deep, it is, I think, embedded in the biology of both species. Perhaps the most poignant thing about the New York carriage horse controversy is that we see that so many humans have lost sight of that bond, and what it means for them and us. This attachment cuts across gender, but is especially strong among many women and their horses.
