Two years after she began work on it, Maria announced this morning that the “Rapunzel Chair,” as she calls it (I called it the “Fiber Chair”, is completed. we used up the last bale of hay that came in October this morning.) Maria has taken the baling string from the hay and attached it to the old chair in the barn. She has not missed a morning in two years, rain, snow, cold or sun.
This weekend, she will go up into the upstairs floor of the barn and bring down another chair and start work on it. She says she has no idea what she will do with the Rapunzel chair, I imagine it will become a fixture her on the farm. The barn cats love it. So do I.
Perhaps we will have a row of Rapunzel Chairs one day. Maria is faithful to her art, it is a seminal part of her, I have much enjoyed watching this Cinderella chair, once abandoned, turn into a work of art. Several people have asked me if she wants to sell it, I don’t think so, but I don’t know.
