I saw Bliss McIntosh and her dog – he was sitting in the shade of her wheelbarrow – working alone in the Cambridge Community Garden. Bliss is many things in our town, a mainstay in civic causes, a passionate supporter of community and of the arts, a much loved gardener (she gave us the first bulbs for our Dahlia garden). The community garden is a public garden, anyone can tend it or plant seeds and flowers there.
I thought it was a very beautiful sight, Bliss working quietly to weed and plant the garden, her dog sitting so quietly and patiently with her. I asked if it was all right to take her photo, I didn’t mean to annoy or interrupt her. “Oh, no,” she said, “it’s a record of our community.”
